A part in demand

Yesterday still the star on the fair – today one of the highlights at the Strategy Day in Iserlohn: our battery housing. With this exhibit we were absolutely en vogue at the IZB.

Today about 70 employees of the Iserlohn  plant will take the chance to learn more about this and other development projects.

We say good-bye for the trade fair season 2018 and are looking forward to Auto Shanghai in spring 2019.

Tetris at sundown

The three days in Wolfsburg passed by in a flash.  Right at sundown on Thursday evening everything was already stowed in the car for the backhaul.

Obviously these two colleagues have not played “Tetris” for the first time in their lives.

Director VW Group Procurement was our guest

High-ranking VW representatives visited our booth yesterday. Among them also Alfonso Sancha Garcia, Director VW Group Procurement Metal, with his department managers. The meeting was about current projects for e-mobility.

During the IZB  round tour of the VW group procurement department managers they took the time for a “round table” at our booth.

The next day…

Welcome on our booth at the IZB in hall 7. We have a lot to offer: Not only our latest product innovations in the automotive lightweight construction are there to fascinate our visitors. A driving simulator guarantees driving pleasure without traffic jams, our barista and cocktail mixer serves some non-alcoholic cocktails for refreshment and our booth assitance prepares some snacks.

Final spurt in booth building

It’s the afternoon, half past three in Wolfsburg: the last build-up day of the IZB.

  • The booth is set up
  • The lights are on
  • All products are hung up
  • The touchscreens are running
  • The test run with the driving simulator was successful
  • Our fridge is stuffed
  • All customer presents are stored
  • The kitchen is equipped

As usual there is still a lot of hustle on many booths at that time of the day. Now it is about the finishing touches – tomorrow morning everything has to be perfect.

Tonight the barista will also arrive to set up the coffee machine and cocktail bar. Until then the last puzzle piece, our battery housing, will have made its way to Wolfsburg with our colleague from Attendorn to be finally displayed on our highlight wall.

One is for sure: In a few hours everything will look completely different.

Material with lightweight potential

KIRCHHOFF Automotive and the Volkswagen AG have been collaborating for some years, among others, with regards to the material pre-assessment process for various new grades of steel and are investigating a possible series use of these new materials. For instance, the use of materials with press hardnesses of 1900 MPa saves weight and increases safety.

Technology carriers like crash management systems and B-pillars serve for the material evaluation. As part of and also on behalf of the material pre-assessment process, KIRCHHOFF Automotive, together with the participating VW departments, determine important technological parameters required for the start of material release, including the forming and joining behavior of these components. The joint research and development activities in lightweight steel construction are paying off: on the basis of TKSE’s MBW 1900 material, a KIRCHHOFF Automotive product will be used in production vehicles from Volkswagen – with a weight saving of more than 10%.

At our stand in hall 7 at the IZB in Wolfsburg, we will gladly inform you about further innovative lightweight construction solutions with optimum material combinations for the body and chassis. We are looking forward to your visit.
